Art as Advocacy

the impact

Through exhibitions, media features, and online engagement, my work sparked conversations around mental health, identity, and feminism. Key outcomes included:

  • Increased Awareness & Dialogue – Exhibitions provided a space for discussions on mental health, breaking down stigma and fostering open conversations.
  • Deep Audience Connection – Many viewers resonated with the themes, sharing their own personal experiences in response to my work.
  • Bridging Art & Social Change – The project reinforced the power of visual storytelling as a tool for advocacy and education.
  • Expansion into Digital & Product Design – The skills and principles developed in this work directly influenced my approach to branding, UI/UX, and digital storytelling.

Project Breakdown

Art has always been my way of making sense of the world—more than just a skill, it’s a language I use to tell stories and explore complex themes. Over the years, my work has evolved into a body of digital and mixed-media art that examines the intersection of feminism, mental health, and identity. This journey led me to exhibitions in Los Angeles, New York City, Berlin, and beyond, where I showcased immersive, surreal visuals that challenge perceptions and destigmatize mental health struggles.

Blending photography from my travels—from the Amazon to the Arctic—with digital illustration and abstraction, I created layered compositions that map the emotional landscapes of resilience, trauma, and self-perception. My artistic background continues to shape my approach to design, helping me craft emotionally resonant digital experiences that prioritize depth, storytelling, and advocacy.

The Challenge

Mental health issues—particularly among women—remain widely misunderstood, often stigmatized, or overlooked. Anxiety, bipolar disorder, and trauma are deeply personal yet universally shared experiences, yet conversations around them are often clinical rather than emotional.

In digital culture, the way women are perceived and the way they perceive themselves is shaped by societal expectations, visual media, and internalized narratives. However, mainstream artistic and commercial representations often fail to capture the nuanced, surreal, and sometimes chaotic nature of these experiences.

My challenge was to create work that not only reflected these internal struggles but also connected with audiences in a way that felt personal, immersive, and deeply human.

the solution

To address this, I developed a body of work that blended realism with abstraction—using digital collage, photography, and illustration to create pieces that visually mapped mental and emotional states. My approach included:

  • Visual Metaphors for Mental Health – Translating emotional experiences into layered, surreal compositions that made the invisible visible.
  • Exploring Digital Identity – Examining how technology and online culture shape women’s self-perception.
  • Immersive Storytelling – Crafting interactive, multimedia experiences that pulled viewers into the narrative.
  • Public Exhibitions & Advocacy – Showcasing work in feminist and experimental art spaces to engage the public in conversations about mental health.

Selected Exhibitions & Showcases

My work was featured in a range of socially driven and feminist-focused art spaces, including:

Cherry Pie – An intersectional feminist art show.
Women, According to the Internet – Feminism in the digital age.
Tremors – A multi-disciplinary response to social upheaval.
Safe and Confined – An interactive exhibit exploring female adolescence.
The Other Art Fairs (Brooklyn & LA) – Curated exhibitions of emerging artists.
DADA CLT – A contemporary experimental art movement.

Beyond traditional gallery spaces, my work reached a broader audience through mental health publications, media interviews, and commissioned pieces for collectors and advocacy groups.

my role

As a self-taught digital artist and visual storyteller, I led this body of work across multiple dimensions:

  • Concept Development & Thematic Exploration – Developed narratives centered on feminism, digital identity, and mental health.
  • Mixed-Media & Digital Art Production – Combined photography, illustration, and abstract elements to create immersive compositions.
  • Exhibition & Curation – Showcased work in leading feminist and contemporary art spaces.
  • Speaking & Advocacy – Participated in panel discussions, interviews, and features in mental health-focused publications.
  • Commissioned & Commercial Work – Created custom pieces for collectors, galleries, and social impact initiatives.

AND THAT'S A WRAP!

My artistic journey has seamlessly evolved into my work as a designer, where I apply the same storytelling techniques to branding, digital products, and UI/UX design. The core principles of my art remain central to my approach:

Emotional Storytelling – Designing experiences that connect on a deeper level.
Depth & Texture – Bringing rich, layered visuals to digital spaces.
Advocacy Through Design – Using creativity to challenge narratives and elevate underrepresented voices.

Whether through an art exhibition, a commissioned piece, or a digital experience, my goal remains the same: to translate unseen emotions into tangible, impactful visuals that foster connection, conversation, and understanding.
